Writing and Editorial Background

• Writing: Playwright and fiction writer for over 10 years in the genres of Science Fiction, Fantasy and Horror. Performed scripts include children’s plays, seasonal vignettes, and professionally produced multi-media passion play. Fiction works of novella, short story, flash and poetry appear in professional online and print publications. Author of High Fantasy novel series. Received Honorable Mention in L. Ron Hubbard’s 2007 Writers of the Future Award; winner of 2008 and 2010 Darrell Award, and 2009 Mary Shelley Award for Imaginative Fiction.
• Editing: Co-Founder and Executive Editor of Meadowhawk Press. Experience with content editing, copyediting, and proofreading. Projects include anthology collection of short stories for Breast Cancer Research and Awareness, and novel Terminal Mind by David Walton, which won Science Fiction’s Philip K. Dick Award.
• Professional Blogger: Professional-rate blogger for EnglishTeaStore.com with tea and novel companion articles, reviewing tea and science fiction novel pairings, called BookTastings
• Word Catchers Writers Group: Co-established Memphis-area writers’ group. In two years of leadership mentoring, group member publication credits rose from 0% to over 85% published.

Events Experience

• MidSouthCon Writers’ Conference Coordinator: Co-established and currently run Writers’ Conference for the Memphis-area Science Fiction convention. Responsibilities include contacting and scheduling best-selling and award-winning authors, scientists, media-related guests; developing and populating panels on the craft of writing; overseeing conference attendance, publicity for event, interaction with guests, and convention follow-up.
• MidSouthCon Educators’ Science and Fiction Seminar: Expanded MidSouthCon’s three-hour education track to a cross-curriculum 10-hour seminar approved for Continuing Education Units by University of Memphis. Responsibilities included contacting and scheduling authors, scientists, lecturers and teachers; developing and populating panels on Science Fiction in the classroom; other convention responsibilities as listed above.
• MidSouthCon Student Writing and Art Contests: Responsibilities include coordinating judges for writing contest; liaison for student finalists and award presentation; other convention responsibilities as above.
• Speaking: Often-invited speaker on writing and the publishing industry; including Florida Writers’ Conference, conventions throughout Midwest and South, local schools and book sellers.
