Her novel, though set in the lush fantasy realm of Leland Province, nevertheless expresses how our society has more in common with dragons than we may realize. In it, she tells the poetic tale of Kallon Redheart, a reclusive dragon who, if he is to be the reluctant hero, must face his past and the future he's stopped believing in. When asked why she chose a dragon for the main character in her novel, she replied, "I'd say he chose me. After all," she continued, "...the human condition applies as much to [dragons] as it does to us."
